R&CA MEDIA RELEASE: Early Phase D announcement leaves Victorian hospitality industry jumping for joy
Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) has today welcomed the announcement from the Victorian Government that nearly all remaining restrictions will be lifted for fully vaccinated people from 11:59pm tonight.
“In the lead up to the busy Christmas trading season, today’s announcement that density and capacity limits have been scrapped is the best early Christmas present possible”, said R&CA CEO Wes Lambert.
“This has been a remarkable feat by the people of the Victoria and we’re so proud of the thousands of venues around Victoria who have shown such resilience during this incredibly trying time.”
R&CA also welcomed the return of dancing indoors which would be much needed for Victorians their newly regained freedoms this weekend, especially the wedding segment of the industry.
Mr Lambert however expressed concern about the retention of mask mandates for hospitality workers saying that the failure to remove the mandate on masks “singled out the hospitality industry”.
“The rule for masks in hospitality feels like we are being unfairly singled out and the workplace health and safety issues of overheating have been overlooked and abandoned. R&CA will continue to advocate for this to be overturned, especially now that 90% of the population over 12 years of age have been fully vaccinated”, he said.
